Islamabad: The Excise and Taxation Department, according to Director Bilal Azam on Thursday, broke all previous records for tax collection by collecting more than Rs 19 billion during the fiscal year 2021–22.
He stated that it was possible to collect a record number of taxes thanks to the introduction of modern technology for tax collection, which eventually assisted the public by putting the facility at their door.
He asserted that the department’s tax collection climbed by 72% from the fiscal year 2020–21, when it brought in more than Rs 11 billion. Taxes totalling Rs 13 billion were collected by the department during the preceding fiscal year (2021-22).
He said that the department also generated Rs 6 billion for the Federal Board of Revenue the previous year.
In the previous five years, tax revenue, according to Bilal, has multiplied 300 times. The collection grew from Rs 5 billion to Rs 19 billion throughout the same time period.
He also gave the credit for the record tax collection to the chief commissioner of Islamabad, Amer Ali Ahmed, and the deputy commissioner, Irfan Memon. He claimed that their guidelines and support made it possible.
